Jeju Island

Over Labor Day weekend we took a 45 minute flight over to one of Korea's Islands, Jeju. Koreans refer to this as "Korea's Hawaii". It was so nice to get out of the city for a few days and enjoy grass, trees and beach! Zach did great on his first flight and Lilly was excited watching the clouds as the plane passed through them.

Zach wasn't very excited about the trip.

He woke up for the flight and was entertained by the man across from me...the entire flight.

 We rented a car since the Island is pretty big and everything is spread out. It was a luxury to drive a "nice" car compared to our Korean beater!

This carseat came with the rental and was too small for Lilly, who managed to get her arms out of the straps. She was exhausted by the time the plane landed.

We spent one of the days visiting one of the more popular beaches.

Lilly loved digging in the sand. It took her a little while to warm up to swimming in the water.

Zach also enjoyed digging in the sand, which did not easily brush off of hands and mouth!

Making more friends. The boy was trying to make a big hole and Lilly kept putting dirt in it.

Jeju is known for tangerines. Vendors were handing out pieces but of course gave Lilly a whole one.

We also had to try the fresh pineapple! "Deeelicious" as Lilly says.

The statue is of a female diver, which is an old profession of the local women. They dive for food to sell to local businesses.  Few still dive today, but it is becoming rare as current generations are not interested.

Our dislike of Korean food led us to Popeye's chicken for dinner where Lilly had important calls to make.

Without even prompting, Lilly gave the peace sign for this picture on our flight home. I guess after a weekend observing Korean's taking pictures she picked it up.
